House Hunters: Okinawa Edition

I need to write an accompanying post to this about how I am coping with the fact that I didn't get my way to live off base. Needless to say, there is nothing I can do about it, so I will try to only focus on the pros of living on base: the big ones being that I will have free air conditioning (off base the a/c costs are astronomical and it gets ridiculously hot and humid in the summer), I will have tons of storage space, and also a dishwasher/garbage disposal. Small things, but like I said, I'm trying to be positive!

Anyway, we got to look at two options today to decide on.
Which one will we choose??

House #1: A townhouse style home with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths. This home is on a different base that my husband works at so it gives more of a separation from home and work. More of a neighborhood feel, with tons of storage space. Small backyard, so we could have a grill, garden, pet, etc. Whatever we want! Less than a mile from the beach, but no ocean view at all.

House #2 is newer, with a more open floor plan. 3 bedrooms, 2 bath. Farther from the beach but since it's in an apt. building, there is ocean view. The interior is nicer, but it is in an ugly concrete building in its own base entrance: consequently, it almost looks like a high security prison. Plus, we are kind of sick of apt living meaning being in such close proximity to so many others.
 Hallway to bedrooms...
 So, which will we choose?
The older interior that's closer to the beach?
Or, the crowded tower with a newer interior and better floorplan?

  1. Number one! Having outdoor space is worth a whole lot in my book. Plus more of a house feel is awesome. I'm super sick of apartments too. A town home style would feel a lot more like your own space I think. Plus then you have somewhere for spray paint and other diy projects:)

  2. Beach beach beach!! I'm bored of apartments too. And ac, a dishwasher, and storage are a HuGE deal... Coming from someone who has none of those.

  3. I'd go with number 2 because there's a balcony and balconies are awesome.

  6. Judging by the pictures, I'd say #1. You're still close to the beach so I think that is all that really matters.I know you will love having a little yard space too. Miss you so much!!

  7. I am vicariously living through your house hunter experience. I love the first one! :) Good luck! I can't wait to see which one you pick!

  8. Tough decision. I like that #2 has an ocean view, but with #1 you would have a yard and could get a little doggie. Good luck!

  9. Number 1! (To me, it sounds like that's how you're leaning anyway.) I'd give my right arm for a yard. If I weren't upside down in my condo, I'd sell it and just to buy something else with a yard.

  10. Go with #1! We just moved into a townhouse not too long ago and we LOVE it! Having a yard and a BBQ is so worth it!
