The Island Way

Not only did Victor have Monday off of work for MLK day, but he also had Tuesday off as well, which I was very pleased about. We had a wonderful four day weekend and we saw so much---and the crazy thing is that there is still SO much left to see and do on this small island.

Monday we decided to head down with another new couple to the island to the city of Naha, which is the biggest city on the island. It's crazy how it can go to small rural villages and jungle to congestion like this:

We went to the beautiful Shuri Caste, which was originally built in the 14th century. Before Okinawa was officially claimed by Japan, it used the be the Ryukyu kingdom, and this castle is where their kings lived and governed. It was a lovely palace.

We explored Naha a bit, ate some soba (Japanese ramen noodles) and headed to our home sweet home, the hotel. In case you ever thought that living in a hotel would be so much fun, it's NOT. And we still have 9 days left. Can't wait to get out, although it is really nice having somebody make your bed and take out your trash everyday.
 Anyway.
Yeah, it was a nice, warm, lovely day!

  1. Hotel living with a kitchen and dishwasher and free breakfast and lots of space = not so bad (i.e. marriott extended stays - they're like apartments).

Hotel living without that = rough. We have the hardest lives.
